12-Week Case Study at The Oaks Skilled Nursing Community Achieves Zero Bathroom-Related Falls, Zero UTIs, and Zero Moisture-Related Skin Breakdown

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ALACHUA, Florida (May 13th, 2026) – etectRx™, Inc., a leading digital health sensor company, today announced the results of a landmark 12-week case study conducted at The Oaks at EdenHill Communities, a premier Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in New Braunfels, Texas. The study demonstrated exceptional clinical outcomes using the eBrief™ intelligent incontinence monitoring system, achieving a 100% reduction in bathroom-related falls, urinary tract infections (UTIs), and moisture-related skin breakdown among participating residents.
EdenHill Communities is dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care for individuals in long-term and skilled nursing settings, where dementia and other neurological conditions present unique challenges. Incontinence affects more than half of individuals with dementia and up to 84% of residents in long-term care, and its consequences extend far beyond bladder dysfunction — missed or misunderstood bodily cues can lead to serious outcomes including infections, moisture-associated skin damage, falls, and avoidable hospitalizations.
Over the course of 12 weeks, The Oaks at EdenHill implemented the eBrief program with 15 residents living with incontinence. Using a four-week baseline comparison period, the care team monitored key outcomes on a weekly basis.
The results were transformative across every measured category:
• Bathroom-Related Falls: Decreased from 60% to 0% with use of the full eBrief program.
• Moisture-Related Skin Breakdown: Reduced from 40% to 0%, achieving a 100% prevention rate across all eBrief users.
• Urinary Tract Infections: Eliminated entirely — residents who had acquired a UTI on average every week during the baseline period recorded zero UTIs over the entire 12-week study.
“eBrief is truly revolutionary,” said Wendy Carpenter, CEO of EdenHill Communities. “I have been blessed to work with seniors for more than thirty years and despite many advances being made focusing on quality outcomes, the management of incontinence among our seniors remains archaic. The labor-intensive and reactive approach of rounding every two hours disturbs rest and creates an environment prone to falls, increases risk for UTIs, and leads to concerning skin conditions. This program is innovative and has the capability of producing meaningful and significant change in the way we think about and manage incontinence. It literally transforms care, moving away from a reactive to a proactive approach — placing residents in a position for better outcomes while empowering caregivers to provide care with dignity.”
The results spoke for themselves. Inspired by the success of the initial study, EdenHill Communities made the decision to expand the eBrief program to all residents experiencing incontinence and incontinence-related issues within The Oaks neighborhood, a testament to the confidence EdenHill's leadership and care teams placed in the system after witnessing its impact firsthand.
The eBrief System alleviates care burdens by delivering real-time urinary incontinence monitoring through a discreet, battery-free moisture sensor embedded in incontinence products. When a moisture event is detected, a room reader captures and transmits the alert directly to a care dashboard, notifying staff promptly and enabling timely, dignified interventions. The system’s data visibility also supports accurate identification of voiding patterns for personalized care planning, and enhances accountability by allowing care teams to identify, document, and address any gaps in care delivery.
“The outcomes achieved at EdenHill Communities represent a new standard for incontinence care in skilled nursing settings,” said Eric Buffkin, President and CEO of etectRx. “When every single metric — falls, infections, and skin breakdown — reaches zero, it speaks to the transformative potential of proactive, data-informed care. We are proud to partner with organizations like EdenHill who share our commitment to improving the quality of life and dignity of residents in long-term care.”
