Jacqueline Vance's McKnight's Column on eBrief and the Future of Incontinence Care: "Who Actually Needs Us?"

In her latest column for McKnight's Long-Term Care News, LTC nurse, past National LTC Nurse Administrator of the Year, and eBrief's very own clinical lead Jacqueline Vance ("The Real Nurse Jackie") addresses a habit most of the industry doesn't question enough: waking residents on a fixed schedule just to check if they're wet.

Vance walks through the real cost of interrupted sleep for older adults, from fatigue and confusion to increased fall risk. She reframes the core question facing the industry from "who's next on the clock" to "who actually needs us?" She pushes the point further, arguing the real cost isn't investing in proactive care, but the price of leaving incontinence unmanaged - all delivered with the kind of wit you'd expect from an accomplished stand-up comedienne who also happens to be a nationally respected LTC nurse.

She also gives a shoutout to eBrief, noting etectRx's recognition as a 2026 McKnight's Tech Awards Innovator of the Year finalist as well as the Florida Incontinence Care Initiative grant, a new program funding the technology for select Florida skilled nursing homes.
